Global Classrooms

Mercedes Díaz-Miguel Pérez, a student in 3ESO, returned from New York on Wednesday after winning an award at the prestigious Global Classrooms Conference in New York City.
The conference, which is held in English, brings together hundreds of students from around the world to the United Nations Building in New York.  The students debate and discuss the world’s most important issues, just like real UN delegates.
Díaz-Miguel Pérez represented the war-torn country of Myanmar in a conference regarding human rights.  She was selected from hundreds of students to receive the honorable mention award.
Students around the world have been preparing for the conference since the beginning of the school year.  Twelve students from Ciudad de los Poetas (Paula Berlanga, Mercedes Díaz-Miguel, Dylan Engquist, Saray González, Katia Kozitski, Rosalía Martín, Silvia Martín, Paula Sáez, Carlos Sánchez, María Torondel, Javier de Torres, Ruben Vicente) were selected to compete in a similar UN conference with their peers from Madrid in February.  Twelve students from the Madrid conference were then selected to travel to New York to compete with students from around the globe.
In addition to learning about world issues and practicing her English skills, Díaz-Miguel Pérez had the opportunity to make friends from all over the world, including China and Texas.
